Gender Equality and Diversity
We will be happy to talk to you about our work, or to advise you on any issues relating to gender or diversity.
The RWTH has twice emerged successfully and strengthened from the Excellence Initiative of the Federal and State Governments – not least because, as an integrated interdisciplinary technical university, it meets the demands regarding the implementation of an organizational culture and staff policy geared to equal opportunities.
The successes also highlight the own high standards, which guide the actions of RWTH Aachen University. In the spirit of an innovative, open and vibrant university culture, in 2007 it committed through its "People Policy" to cherish and promote the diversity of all members of the university. The central aim is to make RWTH Aachen a "place to be" through good study and employment conditions, an equitable staff development, transparent selection procedures and family justice: talented students and employees from home and abroad should, regardless of gender, living situation or socio-cultural backgrounds, be able to unfold their individual potential.
The key to realizing these goals is equality of opportunity - a declared management task, a strategic cross-cutting topic firmly anchored in the university structure. In close cooperation with the Rector’s Office, the Staff Unit Integration Team - Human Resources, Gender and Diversity Management (in short IGaD) has worked since 2007 to sensitize people at every level of the university to recognize differences in a constructive way, and to provide them with incentives for actively supporting gender equality and equal opportunities.
The IGaD helps the central and academic institutions at RWTH incorporate gender and diversity perspectives, and advises them on developing and implementing corresponding measures. In this way, it makes an essential contribution to developing an innovative, lively university culture where diversity is welcomed and people’s individual potential is valued.
Cooperative interactions with all actors involved in gender and diversity-related processes form the implicit basis of our work.
