Continuous improvement in teaching is valued at RWTH Aachen. This includes the use of didactically-grounded methods of blended learning, meaning methods of modern teaching, which bring together in class lessons and independent study phases with possibilities of new media. The Rector's Office introduced the projects Blended Learning and ETS 2014 to 2017 and Blended Learning and ETS 2018 to 2023 to support and promote this goal.

In the context of the digitisation strategy, blended learning is understood as a concept to effectively combine the use and development of classical teacher-centred pedagogy with the opportunities for self-paced, flexible learning offered with (digital) media support. This balance is always individually determined and depends on the subject-specific requirements.
