Within the framework of the research project “Family Times in Science and Research“ on 31 May 2012 the conference »Comeback in Science? Transfer conference “Family Times in Science and Research”« takes place at RWTH Aachen University’s SuperC. The conference is hosted by the department of Gender and Diversity in Engineering (GDE) in cooperation with the equal opportunities committee of the faculty of civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University. The occupational comeback of scientists after a family-related absence is strongly affected by the specific structures and dynamics of the university system. Which conditions determine the reconciliation of family and work in science? Which qualities constitute a family friendly university? Which measures can be offered by universities to support the comeback of its employees before, during and after a family-related absence? To answer these questions on the final conference of the research project “Family Times in Science and Research“, which analyses the occupational comeback process after a family-related absence exemplarily at RWTH Aachen University, current scientific research findings are presented. In a panel discussion the findings and its transferability into practice will be discussed with diverse experts from research, university administration and practice. The conference language is German.
