Gendered Innovations in Science, Health & Medicine, and Engineering.

RWTH Aachen wants to strengthen the integration of Gender and Diversity aspects in all areas of research. Accordingly the IGaD supports and advises faculties on how to consider relevant working areas and courses in their strategic planning and to consequently incorporate them in study and examination regulations. Furthermore numerous research projects are realised under the direction of Univ. -Prof. Dr. Carmen Leicht-Scholten which provide new findings for the implementation and development of gender and diversity management in organisations.
The IGaD actively facilitates the integration of aspects of Gender Studies in research and teaching. Therefore one of its main tasks is to contribute to the creation of a climate which promotes mutual exchange and open discussion within the faculties and other facilities of the university.
In order to incorporate more gender aspects in research and science RWTH Aachen has awarded ten doctoral fellowships which are primarily located in the field of natural sciences and funded by the German Research Foundation in the framework of the German Excellence Initiative (Overview of the awarded gender fellowships).
In the framework of the postdoc-qualification-programme at RWTH Aachen University, all faculties receive funding for a part time position for the duration of 36 months in order to retain and promote a qualified female junior scientist. The fellowships support highly qualified female junior scientists in their career progression at RWTH Aachen University. The IGaD developed the concept for the grant of the fellowships which refers to the guidelines of the German Research Foundation. The programme is funded by the German Research Foundation in the framework of the German Excellence Initiative.
