Lunch Talk "Gender Perspective on STEM - Always There, Sometimes Forgotten" with Prof. Tomas Brage

The ERS and the Project GesMINT are inviting all RWTH members as well as anyone interested to a lunch talk with Professor Tomas Brage from Lund University (Sweden).

STEM – short for science, technology, engineering and math – is known to be a field of research that stands for universal validity and objectivity. Biases regarding gender seem to be less important, if important at all.
So, what is the gender perspective on STEM really? Does it need to be considered in every research field? What are the opportunities and chances of a gender-sensitive approach to science?

In this lunch talk, Prof. Tomas Brage will give an overview of what the gender dimension has to do with STEM research (even in research fields where the influence of gender might not be obvious at first glance), why it should not be forgotten, and what effects considering gender will have on the quality of STEM research and knowledge production.

Tomas Brage is Professor of Physics at the Division of Mathematical Physics at Lund University in Sweden. For the last 15 years, he has been intensively involved in gender equality work in Natural Science, especially in Physics and math-intensive disciplines. He gives talks on “Gender and Physics” around Europe and is active in several European networks. He is a steering group member for the workgroup for Gender of the Leading European Research Universities (LERU) network, the genderSTE COST network and the GENERA Horizon 2020 project.
