Raise your voice! Poetry Slam & Workshop presented by the Equal Opportunities Project of the RWTH student body (GSP) and IGaD

Together with the Equal Opportunities Project of the RWTH student body (GSP), IGaD is hosting a poetry slam workshop, followed by a poetry evening on (anti-muslim) racism and its critique.

 

Workshop "Poetry Slam for Beginners*"

The poetry slam workshop on 19 & 20 November 2022 is aimed at RWTH students and BIPoC* people who have experienced racism. The workshop offers poetry slam beginners and experienced slammers professional guidance on writing and performing their own poetry slam, as well as exercises to improve stage presence and the opportunity for critical discourse on racism in a confidential atmosphere. The workshop also consists of rehearsals for the subsequent final event. Nevertheless, everyone who is interested in writing texts and exchanging with other people affected by racism are explicitly welcome.

The workshop will be facilitated by Ahmad Abouchihab (B.A.) from the Muslim poetry & künstler:innen-kollektiv i,Slam e.V.

Date and time: 19 & 20 November 2022, from 11:00 to 14:00 hrs respectively, followed by a presentation of the resulting works at the final event on 20 November 2022, 17:00 to 19:00 hrs.

Target group: RWTH students, BIPoC* persons.

Registration: by to the Antiracism Office of the Equal Opportunities Project of the RWTH student body with first and last name and preferably originating from the personal RWTH e-mail address.

The number of participants is limited to 10.

 

Poetry Slam - Raise your voice!

At the poetry slam "Raise your voice!", RWTH students and other poetry slammers will perform their texts on (anti-Muslim) racism, its critique and experiences of discrimination. The event forms the conclusion of the two-day workshop "Poetry Slam for Beginners*".

The event creates a space for people affected by racism to process and creatively work through their experiences. The aim is to empower and make visible BIPoC* people who have experienced racism. Poetry slam newcomers* and Ahmad Abouchihab from "i,Slam e.V. - muslim poetry & künstler:innen-kollektiv aus deutschland" will be among the performers.
