RWTH Aachen University regularly undergoes extensive certification processes that document its ongoing commitment to equality, equal opportunity, diversity management and family justice. TOTAL E-QUALITY & Diversity Award
Since 2005, RWTH has regularly been awarded the TOTAL E-QUALITY title. In 2017 the university also received the newly awarded Diversity title and the Sustainability Award for the first time. Since 2023, the award stands for an intersectional and inclusive understanding of equal opportunities in all dimensions of diversity- The certification was successfully renewed in 2023.
The TOTAL E-QUALITY award is recognized by politics and business alike as a benchmark in the advancement of women in all areas of work and especially in leadership positions.
audit family-friendly university
The audit family-friendly university by berufundfamilie Service GmbH of the German Hertie Foundation accompanies the comprehensive activities of RWTH in establishing family-friendly work and research structures. In 2009, RWTH was certified as a family-friendly university, and in 2012,2015 and 2021 it was successfully re-audited. In order to permanently maintain the certificate, the so-called dialog procedure was carried out in the fall of 2018. The compatibility needs and wishes of university employees identified in this process led to the development of an action program.
The Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality of the DFG
As a member of the DFG, RWTH Aachen University once again committed itself to the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality in 2017 and is responsible for designing and establishing suitable measures for the equality of women and men at all scientific qualification levels. In 2008, the proportion of women in the professorships at RWTH Aachen was 8%. The university set targets for an increase of the share to 20% in 2020. 30% is targeted by 2030 (at 09/2020: 18.8 %). Since 2009 RWTH has reported continuously about the development of research-oriented equality standards, lastly within its qualitative reports on increasing the proportion of women in the postdoc phase and on the university's approach to diversity.
In August 2013, RWTH was the first German university to receive the seal of approval from the German University Association (DHV) for fair and transparent appointment procedures. After successful re-auditing, it was awarded for a further five years in August 2021.
