Developing RWTH into an inclusive university is the declared goal of the university management.

Inclusion fund for the faculties 1 - 8 (2023)

The funds can be used to finance measures for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses (deadline: December 31, 2023).

RWTH Aachen University is committed to the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and is continuing to develop into an inclusive university that is recognizable to all university members by identifying and gradually removing existing barriers. Everyone will benefit from becoming an inclusive university: The removal of barriers, the gain in perspectives, and the appreciation of diversity is an academic, educational, and societal gain or added value.

In a participatory strategy process, the Action Plan Inclusion - RWTH Aachen University (2021-2026) (German) was written.

The political and legal framework of inclusion is provided by

  • The Social Security Statute Book IX from 2001
  • Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which entered into force in Germany in 2009
  • the recommendation "A University for Everyone" of the German Rectors' Conference of 2009
  • the Action Plan „A Society for Everyone“ of the State Government from 2012
  • the General Equal Opportunities Act from August 14, 2006 in its current version from August 2013
  • §3 (5) of the NRW Higher Education Act from 2014: "The universities are involved in the social promotion of the students and take into account the special needs of students and employees with disabilities or chronic illness [...]."
