Gender-based violence starts with everyday sexism and ends with femicide. In Germany, every third woman is affected by physical and/or sexualized violence at least once in her life. This violence is omnipresent and firmly anchored in our patriarchal structures.

Since 1991, the UN campaign "Orange The World" has been drawing attention to this violence from the International Day to End Violence Against Women on November 25 to December 10, Human Rights Day. Since 2008, the days have been part of the UN Secretary-General's UNITE to End Violence against Women campaign, which is run by UN Women.

In 2023, the Orange The World campaign will take place under the motto "Stop Violence against Women".

RWTH supports this campaign and is once again hoisting orange flags in front of the main building this year. The Equal Opportunities Office at RWTH Aachen University offers advice and prevention work in the area of sexual discrimination and violence at universities.
