Description

Research data are the basics and outcome of scientific work. An aware and sustained handling of research data improves the effectivity of research and is an integral part of good scientific practice.

This seminar gives a short overview about the topics of research data management.

Objective

• You know the offers of service and infrastructure at the RWTH Aachen University.

• You know the relevant parts of research data management.

• You know the contents of a data management plan (DMP).

• You know the FAIR-principles.

• You are able to deal with the term metadata.

• You are able to distinguish betweennsaving, backup, archiving and publishing tasks.

• You know the possibilities for publishing data.

The purpose of this interdisciplinary course is to give a short overview of the basic elements of research data management. We will inform you about the offers of service and infrastructure at the RWTH Aachen University and beyond.

Participants will learn:

• What are research data and metadata?

• What is the data life cycle?

• What is meant by the terms archiving, backup and publication?

• What means "FAIR"?

• What are the requirements to research data management?

• Which guidelines are established for the handling of research data?

• Which are the elements of research data management? E.g. data management plan, digital preservation or metadata, which helps you to structure your scientific daily routine?

During the seminar you will start to develop an action guide for the next steps in your research data management. In the discussion and after the seminar you have the chance to ask practical questions.
